Welcome to Holy Trinity

We are so pleased you are considering joining us.
This page is to help you find your way around and know something of what is going on if you visit us on a Sunday.

Who are we?

We are broken people, loved by Jesus, serving our community. Someone has said that church is not a club for good or religious people but a hospital for sinners. We are a community of all ages, stages and backgrounds, who are being brought together and changed by the power and love of Jesus. It’s all about him. And it’s good to have you with us today.

What usually happens in our services?

Sunday is when we normally gather together as a church family, with Jesus at the centre. It is not just about the “formal” part of the service, but spending time together before and afterwards.

There are four main aspects to our services:

  • Awe of God – we lift our focus from our every-day lives to who God is. To help us we might have songs, prayers and other words.
  • Listen to God – we hear from God’s word, the Bible. We might have one, two or three readings from the Bible, followed by a talk helping us to understand it and live it.
  • Respond to God – we want to respond to God by saying sorry, praying, and offering our gifts and lives.
  • Sent out by God – we want to be who God calls us to be the rest of the week.

Who is welcome at our services?

Everyone is welcome, whether committed followers of Jesus or those who are not sure what they believe. We just ask you respect those who do want to focus on Jesus.

Do I have to wear anything special?

No - just wear what you would normally wear.

What facilities do you have?

If you need the toilet at any time, feel free to make use of them. We are currently working up plans for a wheel-chair accessible toilet.

Baby-change facilities are presently in the ladies’ toilets. (Again, we are making plans to remedy this).

Phones

We do ask you to switch them off or put them on silent during our services. Thank you!

Photos and recording

Please don’t take photos or recordings of the service. For many, this is a personal and special time for them. For baptisms, please speak to the Vicar to arrange how photos can be taken appropriately during the service.

Livestreaming

Our morning services are livestreamed on our YouTube channel holytrinity.tv

Accessibility

Our two main entrances have ramps for wheelchairs and buggies. We have a hearing loop for the 10:30am service.

Safeguarding

If you have any concerns at any point about the behaviour of any person at church, especially in relation to children or vulnerable adults, please contact our Safeguarding officer Rachel Ford on safeguarding@holytrinity.org.uk or our Vicar on nick.gowers@holytrinity.org.uk. Your concerns will be treated with complete seriousness and discretion. See our safeguarding page for more details.

Morning Services

The 10:30am service is in the main church building and includes age-appropriate groups for children and a hearing loop. All the words for the service are on the screens at the front. Music is led by a band including piano, guitar, vocals and possibly drums. This service is also live-streamed on holytrinity.tv.  There are four different kinds of service, usually in this pattern over the course of a month:

Description Children and young people Length
All Age A service aimed at all ages with songs for every age We all stay together as one big family Usually about an hour
Communion As part of the service we celebrate the Lord's Supper with bread and wine Children's and young people's groups run, starting after the first song and collected by parents before communion Usually about 1.5 hours
Worship & Word A simpler service with more time and space for sung worship, reflection on God's word and response. Children and young people's groups run. They leave after the first few songs and stay out until the end. Usually about 1.25 hours
Morning Worship Our "standard" service with a mix of contemporary songs and older hymns, prayers and words that have stood the test of time. Children and young people's groups run. They leave after the first few songs and stay out until the end. Usually about 1.25 hours.

Children’s groups on a Sunday

We welcome children and young people to all that we do, and recognise that they will make a noise. We have groups for children of various ages:

  • Froggies (age 18 months to pre-school)
  • Sunday Club (Reception to Year 5)
  • Investigators (Year 6 to year 9)

Each group is run by at least two leaders who have been Safer-recruited, DBS checked, and trained in safeguarding. If you are visiting or with us for the first time, please fill in the consent forms and bring them to the group with your children. Alternatively, you can register your children on-line here: https://forms.office.com/r/jaMyrj9imW . If you are here for the first time you are welcome to stay with your child in their group, or collect them at any time. If there is any problem, a leader will come and get you.

We also run children's and young people's groups during the week. Have a look around the website to see what is going on.

Evening Services

At 6:30pm we meet in the church centre, which is smaller and warmer. The entrance is at the back of the building (see map). This service uses a couple of hymn books and follows a more structured traditional format. The sung worship is led by piano. Usually, the third Sunday of the month is a Communion Service.
